As the pandemic wanes and schools shift back to in-person classes, GuidanceNGO adjusts its events by going back to organizing in-person activities. One of which is Career Expedition, a career clinic and college fair event being attended by senior high school students.

It is a fact that not all college programs are being offered in the Philippines. Despite Nanotechnology’s prevalence as a college program offered for many years in some Southeast Asian universities, a Philippine university is yet to offer the program. Now, several countries are offering a bachelor’s program in Artificial Intelligence. Will Philippine higher education institutions be able to catch up with foreign universities? The lack of program diversity in the Philippines can be one of the reasons some Filipino students seek opportunities for higher education in other countries.

For more than 20 years, GuidanceNGO has been attending to career concerns of students and parents in junior and senior high schools. For the Academic Year 2023–2024, GuidanceNGO has lined up seminars designed for parents of Grade 6 students as opportunities for post-elementary education has not been thoroughly explored.

Some students who wish to pursue higher education may not know where to study a college program. While there are more than 2,000 colleges and universities in the Philippines to choose from, they must know if they CAN study in any of these institutions. CAN is the operative word in the previous sentence as students can be limited by various qualifications that hinder the pursuit of a bachelor’s or associate program in some schools.

Thousands of parents are always on the lookout for schools where they can send their children for pre-school, elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school.

In preparing Grade 10 learners for senior high school, they must be equipped with substantial information why they should choose any of the four basic career tracks, Academic, Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL), Arts and Design, or Sports. Alongside these career tracks are strands or specializations such as ABM, HUMSS, STEM, and GAS under the Academic Track; Agri-Fishery Arts, Home Economics, Industrial Arts, Information and Communication Technology, and TVL Maritime under the TVL track, and specializations on Literary Arts, Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Theatre Arts under the Arts and Design track.

After the immensely successful series of events titled Career Expedition 2020-2021 and its sub-event 12 Days of Career Clinic, GuidanceNGO embarks on surveying participating senior high schools in Career Expedition 2021-2022. As the pandemic doesn’t show signs of letting up, the series of events will again be conducted online.

Many students are still uncertain of the college programs that they will take after senior high school. This is primarily the reason GuidanceNGO has embarked on a career fair titled “12 Days of Career Clinic” which is a focused consultation about college programs and careers.

Schoolguide magazine representatives are visiting higher education institutions (HEIs) in the 16 Philippine regions to compile information that will be disseminated not only nationwide, but also to the other countries in the ASEAN region. Alongside this, coordination efforts are being exhausted with the nine ASEAN embassies for the promotion of Philippine higher education. This promotional effort coincides with the current thrusts in globalized education which is expected to stimulate liberal movement of students in the ASEAN nations.
